Many people are confused about how to love themselves. Because there were treated poorly by their parents, they naturally feel bad about themselves and treat themselves in a similar way – without respect, without love, without reverence. If we are to live successful lives, we must learn how to love ourselves as the beautiful, brilliant, spiritually divine souls that we are.

So how should we love ourselves? You know you’re on the right path when you love and honor the goodness in others, foster a divine connection and live according to your deepest principles. While we should also love and honor what is not good in others, that does not mean we can’t get angry or express our disapproval. Sometimes anger is a natural, healthy and productive response to reality. It’s all a matter of how you channel it. Imagine if Martin Luther King had not become angry at the inhumanity of social injustice and racism. But he directed his anger toward positive social change.

It doesn’t make any difference what other people say or think about you. You must know who and what you are, and that is all that matters. You need to have faith in yourself. Trust your instincts. Trust your inner voice. Other people have no right to demean or interfere in the spiritual journey of your divine self, as long as you do no harm to others. Only you know what is best for you, and only you know your true path and calling.

Spiritual Growth & Awareness

Of course, because most people lack spiritual awareness, they will try and block your own progress of spiritual growth. This is normal, and to be expected. Try not to hold a grudge against others simply because they lack your own spiritual awareness. Most people are spiritually asleep. They may mean well, they may love you, but they just don’t know how to express and support you on your spiritual journey.

All of us carry wounds from our childhood. But these wounds cannot be healed by loving others at our own expense. If we neglect ourselves at the expense of others, we will only end up hurting ourselves more in the end. We will darken our inner light. You are an angel. A divine spirit. A beautiful soul. Treat and see yourself that way. Want and appreciate the beauty and bounty that flows into your life. You deserve it.

We depend on others, such as family and friends, to understand and support us, but this can be very discouraging. The reality is, oftentimes they cannot do so because they have their own struggles, their own demons to overcome. Don’t make the mistake of seeing this as your fault. The shortcoming is not in you. They are doing their best with what they know, what they have learned and what they have. Most people, unfortunately, are spiritually stunted by the people who actually love them.

And know that in the end no matter how much people love you, you are ultimately responsible for yourself. You must learn to depend on yourself alone, even if others love and support you along the way. Learning to depend and rely on yourself to overcome the challenges of life is what builds character and self-esteem. Never pity yourself.

By learning that you can depend on yourself to overcome any obstacle, you develop the feeling of being a successful and competent person. This feeling of inner worth is what will support you on the difficult paths your life will take, and is what will make your life fulfilling. As the great philosopher Nietzsche wrote, “Character is destiny”.

Developing healthy self-esteem and a strong character will allow you to achieve anything in life. Your dreams will become reality. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. You are your own best friend, and your own worst enemy.

The Law of Attraction – Karma

When you have a healthy, vibrant, high vibration spirit, you will attract the same energy into your life. You’ll find that other healthy, successful, happy people will enter into your life without you even realizing it. This is the Law of Attraction. Whatever energy you put out will come back to you. If you think great thoughts, great things will happen. Maybe not the same day. Maybe not exactly when you want or expect it. But over time, you will find greater and greater success.

Likewise, if you fill your thoughts with negative energy, and constantly look at the dark side of life, you will attract that darkness to yourself. Pessimism feeds upon itself. When you intentionally commit an evil act, then that energy will come back to you. That is the law of Karma.

When you vibrate energy at a high level, you’ll find that what you desire and need will naturally flow to you. People who are around you – successful people – will feel better and happier and become more attracted to you. If you’re a man, women will naturally find you more attractive because most women love success and confidence in a man more than anything. They are attracted to a man’s power. Most men too – or at least those with high self-esteem – are attracted to confidence in a woman.

Sometimes loving others will require making sacrifices for them, but not to the detriment of your core self. Sometimes loving others means saying no; you have to take care of yourself first. Despite what you may fear, people will not usually become angry when you define your boundaries, but will respect you for your power and strength of individuality. They will see you as a role model, someone to emulate and respect. They will admire your courage.

So that’s how to make your dreams a reality. Not by seeking support from the outside world, but by looking deep within and finding your own strength, your own power, your own dreams and visions – your own ecstasy. Then work like hell. People will follow you on a stairway to heaven.

Most people find this path of self love difficult. Women especially have been taught by tradition to love others ahead of themselves. But just because we put ourselves first does not mean that our love for others becomes diminished.

In fact, when we love ourselves first, we become more powerful, our love becomes more powerful, and we have more to give others. We can help others most when we learn to love ourselves well. That means discovering the divine spirit within. Discovering our own beauty and genius. Our own light. Meditation is one way to discover the divine within.

And don’t forget to be grateful. Gratitude is everything. Be thankful for all that you have. The more you learn to appreciate what you have in life, the more you’ll have to appreciate.

Most of us believed the injurious things that people told us when we were children. They told us we were stupid, or fat, or ugly, or too skinny, or weak, or just not good enough. So we tried to compensate in ways that would make others love us, at the expense of our integrity, our individuality and spiritual wholeness.

We spent so much time attempting to prove our goodness and worthiness to other people that we forgot how to believe in ourselves, determine our own goals and reward ourselves for our progress, rather than basing our self-worth and self-respect on the belief or attention of others.

But the truth is, they were not good enough. And they tried to pawn off their own inadequate feelings on us so they could feel better about themselves. But in the end, we must all learn forgiveness. Forgiveness is the seed of all healing. When we learn to fly in the divine light of forgiveness, we learn what true love is. All true love is born in forgiveness.

It is never too late to have a happy childhood. No matter what you have suffered, others have been there too, and not only survived but thrived. It is never too late to begin loving yourself, and when you do you can be reborn, because the universe will shower you with this love and all the love it contains and will bring you back home to the miraculous. Ask and you shall receive, because the universe is listening right now.

Truly successful people believe in themselves first, and only then seek out the resources and support they need to make their dreams come alive. Unsuccessful people don’t have faith in themselves or their ability to create what they desire, so they wait for others to give them what they need, or blame and resent other people for not giving it to them.

Your decisions – your destiny – are yours to write. You are writing the story of your life. What story are you going to tell?

Here is a transcript of a recent dialogue on an Internet marketing forum. It has to do with new age concepts of being ourselves and what is acceptable for just being ourselves. Can we ever really be our true selves? Do we have a self separate from the society we live in and the other people we come into contact with? Is the self an illusion, as the Eastern mystics have held all along?

Dude #1 wrote: Instead of being “first rate” or “second rate” it is more important that you acknowledge that you are YOU. You can’t compare yourself to anybody else because we are all unique. So who cares about ratings???

Me:

I disagree. This is the relativist fallacy, which equates everything as being equal to everything else. It is ok to have certain standards, adhere to certain principles, and to judge others under certain circumstances.

It is not ok to be crazy, it is not ok to be rude and obnoxious, it is not ok to be selfish, it is not ok to hurt other people, it is not ok to lie and deceive, it is not ok to be unreasonably ignorant and naive, it is not ok to victimize and exploit others (unless you have agreed ahead of time and receive a certain sadistic/masochistic pleasure from it, and maybe even then it is not really ok), it is not ok to procrastinate endlessly or suffer from paralyzing anxiety, it is not ok to be sick, it is not ok to be a lot of things.

Just being “you”, whatever that is, does not justify everything as being ok.

Dude #1

I have no idea what “relativist fallacy” actually means. Am guessing it is where everything is relative to everything else. If so, then that is NOT what I said. I also disagree with your comments about not being allowed to be crazy or selfish as sometimes it can be necessary. Sickness and anxiety are not things you can always control so you cannot use those as examples saying they are not ok. “Being you” does not justify everything being OK and I never claimed that it did. Being YOU means you don’t have to bow to peer group pressure. Of course you can have standards. But they are YOUR standards, not ones set by others. I ask you to simply re read what i wrote because I think you have misinterpreted it, or i didn’t explain it clearly enough for you. I do have an ebook that actually goes into this subject in great detail but that is the essence.

Me:

I read what you wrote very clearly, but I don’t think you have really thought through your position. It sounds a bit simplistic, from the “new age” school of political correctness and psychobabble.

Your writing/thinking is sloppy. First, you say you are “guessing” the relativist fallacy is that “everything is relative to everything else.” Then without showing an understanding of that concept or defining it, you merely say it is not what you said. It is hard to know you didn’t say it if you can’t or won’t define the meaning of what you claim not to have said.

If you read my remarks more closely, you’ll see that I defined the relativist fallacy as everything being “equal” to everything else, not “relative” to everything else. In fact, everything is relative to everything else (Einstein’s Theory of Relativity), but that does not make everything “equal” to everything else (your notion that you are OK and I am OK as long as we are genuinely OURSELVES).

So without defining anything, you disagree with my statement that it is not ok to be crazy. Now you may be playing loosely with semantics here, but by crazy we are most strictly taken to mean psychotic or out of touch with reality. Insane. If you think that is ok, fine, but most people would disagree with you. We are not talking here about creative geniuses who stretch the bounds of what is known, of what we are conscious of – hence enlarging our notion of “reality” – nor are we talking about going out and having a “crazy” night on the town. Most people would find those things acceptable, at least in hindsight (or maybe the crazy night on the town not so acceptable in hindsight .

We all know it’s hard to keep a positive outlook with the stress of daily life. There are people that we come across everyday at work, home or in the general public that just make it their mission to bring other’s down.

You don’t need to stay down or even think about lingering in this place. The following six self improvement tips will assist you in gaining the self esteem that you deserve to have. You should think of this as a starting point to a higher emotional well being.

Tip #1 – Your Work Environment Keep it positive.

You will come across co-workers in your work environment that will have a very competitive attitude. They believe that you need to have a “dog eat dog” way of thinking in order to win.

Not the best work environment to have. Just remember, you don’t have to play that game. Do your job and do it well. Take pride in how you do your work, strive to be your own personal best and you will rise to the top with your self esteem intact.

Tip # 2 – Your Behavior, you can only control you.

All kinds of negative people will enter your life and they will come in all shapes, sizes, behaviors and negative attitudes. Don’t mimic their own unhappiness just because they choose not to change. Promote your own positive behavior and high self esteem with a positive attitude.

Tip # 3 is your environment and the constant changes.

Our world changes everyday. You can see these changes as an opportunity for personal growth and learning. This is a great way to improve your own self.

If you can learn to roll with change as it happens around you, this will give you a great sense of flexibility and adaptability. Learn to evaluate different situations and how you can see them in a positive way. This will only increase your self improvement and create many life experiences that will bring you much joy.

Tip 4 – Life Experience The past is the past, learn from it, own it and move on.

It is what it is. You own your experiences and they belong to you. You can choose to learn from them and then move on with life as a stronger wiser person. You don’t need to be consumed by past experiences because they do make you your own unique person.

You can build your self esteem with each life experience, whether positive or negative. These are all lessons – each failure, each victory, each and every mistake – a great lesson to build on.

Tip # 5 – Your World View. If you make it a positive one if will lead to better self esteem.

A lot of people get caught up in the news of negative events that happen around them both locally and worldwide. You need to be aware of this and you have a choice to make. By choosing to educate yourself in the positive work that is being done to change negative world events, you are choosing self improvement and self esteem. You might even choose to be part of the positive work yourself.

Tip # 6 – Your Determination. Be determined in your own personal life purpose.

Positive self esteem is a choice, at times it takes determination to support that choice, but it is still a choice. Remember you have your own identity and the determination to make your life your very own.

Some people have to fight for positive self esteem and for some it comes easily. How you were raised and the traits you were born with are big influences over you.

Your current environment like your spouse, the economy, your friends and coworkers influence you as well. But ultimately it is you and your determination to do what it takes to maintain your self esteem and continue on your path of self improvement.

by Luke Hounsome

Can anyone learn clairvoyance? The truth is that to a certain extent, yes! What exactly is clairvoyance, and what does it mean to try to learn it? This is something that you might want to think about!

First, let’s define the term clairvoyance. There are many different definitions for this term, and it really depends on who you ask. One of the most common definitions is that you need to learn about remove viewing, that is, being able to see things as they happen from a distance without the use of tools or your five senses. It might also be described as the ability to see in the the future, which is referred to as precognition. Essentially, it means being able to know information that is gathered in a method beyond that of your five senses. This makes clairvoyance the elusive sixth sense.

True, some people do have extraordinary clairvoyant abilities, such as the ability to see, hear, feel, smell, or even taste something far away, or even to know things about the past or future that they couldnt possibly know through any other means. No one really know how this works. Science has not been able to document or explain these abilities. Although there are dozens of metaphysical explanations of these psychic abilities, no particular one has emerged as the dominant belief, and some explanations are even contradictory. One common element, however, seems to cut across all these different theories: people with extraordinary psychic abilities are simply born that way.

Can anyone learn to remote viewing or see the future? No. Can anyone learn to develop and hone their sixth sense? Yes.

All people have a certain degree of clairvoyant sixth sense. This often manifests as an indescribable ‘hunch’ or ‘feeling’ that people can’t logically explain. You may hear people say, for example, ‘I’ve got a bad feeling about this,’ or ‘I don’t know why, but I’ve got a feeling we can trust him.’ Unfortunately, many people ignore their sixth sense, deferring to logic or emotion rather than their gut instinct.

When you are looking for scientific explanation, you’ll find that there are plenty of theories on why we develop hunches and instincts. Some people say that rather than being of supernatural, psychic or paranormal origin, it is in fact your subconscious mind picking up on cues that you are not aware of. Your subconscious mind, because it does not speak in words, will then convey these feelings and impressions to you in a way that will get the point across. This can be a valuable tool when you are looking at developing clairvoyance, because it can tell you to trust your subconscious.

Whether you believe in science or in the mystical existence of a sixth sense, you’ll find that you can still take advantage of this concept. What you need to learn is that no matter what you believe, you can train your perception and that you can sharpen it a great deal. Just look at these three methods.

Method 1: Perception Improvement

The problem that many people run into is that they go through their day so very focused on their tasks that they never see anything else. There are so many small details that can tell us so much, but if you refuse to take the time to look, you’ll find that you are letting your sixth sense wither. When you go to improve your perception, you will be able to take in more of the world around you. There are definitely advantages to being aware, so take a moment to really look around yourself.

This takes practice, however. There are a few things you can do to try to increase your perception. First, slow down a bit. Try to relax, clam yourself, and move at a more leisurely pace in your daily activities. Second, remove distractions designed to occupy your senses. For example, instead of listening to the radio in the car while driving, drive in silence. With nothing else to occupy your senses and thoughts, you’ll become more aware of the world around you”the weather, the neighborhood you’re driving in, and that car behind you moving into your blind spot.

The main health advantage of low carbohydrate diets is the improvement in glycemic or sugar control in the body. What this means is that your body will age more slowly because of a less stressful insulin response, and you will have a reduced chance of getting diabetes. Not a bad deal I’d say.

It has also been shown that a reduction in saturated fats with a low carbohydrate diet also helps temper the insulin response. This has a positive effect on cholesterol, reducing the bad LDL and increasing the good HDL cholesterol levels in the blood.

One of the new the theories of aging suggests that it is the spike in insulin from the intake of too much sugar that leads to more rapid aging, probably due in part to increased inflammation. Also, when your body continually releases too much insulin in response to too much sugar (often consumed in the form of carbohydrates in the diet: bread, pasta, potatoes), the bodies ability to control blood sugar decreases over time. In other words, you become insulin insensitive. When it gets to the point that it is out of control, this leads to the condition known as Diabetes.

The other nice thing about a low carb diet is that it tends to lose fat from the upper body, particularly the stomach. Now who doesn’t love that. Additionally, it has been shown that upper body fat is less healthy than fat from other parts of the body. One study showed that men were 3 times more likely to lose fat in the upper body on a low carbohydrate diet than a low fat diet.

Another problem with carbohydrates is they tend to be addicting, and more people are addicted to them then we care to acknowledge. The addiction comes from the spikes in blood sugar and the spikes in our insulin response to the sugar. It’s like being on a roller coaster. You feel great and high after eating the spaghetti or pizza or bread, but within 1 or 2 hours our body depletes the sugar and we experience a “crash”, which makes us feel tired and lethargic, lacking energy. This makes us want to eat more sugar (carbohydrates). It is a vicious cycle.

Therefore, when we reduce the carbohydrates in our diet, we also reduce our hunger cravings.

Low Carbohydrate diets work well with regular exercise. But don’t go overboard. It is important to include a reasonable, moderate amount of carbohydrates in our diet every day. Just don’t eat too much at once: spread it out throughout the day, and eat more in the morning when you will have time to burn the calories off. Carbohydrates eaten in the evening will tend to make you gain weight.

Any diet that requires you to go low carbohydrate and use only low carbohydrate foods is saying that you need to hunt for vegetables that are low in carbohydrates. You need to use these vegetables in place of your regular foods, including high carbohydrate vegetables. There are many great tasting things that you can do with low carb vegetables.

They can be used in different diet recipes or used in salads. They are great by themselves as healthy snacks and you can also blend them for a nutritious drink. The many websites that give recipes for low carb cooking and meals have many some recipes that will let you use your low carb vegetables.

Imagine turning out a splendid meal using only low carb foods. You can give a magnificent side dish full of low carbohydrate vegetables that have been transformed into a tasty salad. This salad can be garnished with many interesting foods that are also low carbohydrate but taste great by themselves as well, such as fruits, nuts, or lean meats.

For example, you could make a salad from low carbohydrate vegetables and boneless beef, top sirloin steak, fresh lemon juice, gourmet salad greens, medium plum tomatoes, ranch or blue cheese dressing. You can make a seasoning for this salad with dried oregano, garlic and pepper.

As you can now see, there are many ways that you can mix your low carbohydrate vegetables with many other foods in order to make delicious meals for you and others to eat. The main thing to bear in mind is not to put foods like a heavy French dressing on your low carb vegetables. This will turn your nutritious low carb vegetables into a high carb nightmare.

by Owen Jones

When I first encountered an Atkins Diet book, I was working in an office. I had been working there for five or six years and had accumulated a fair bit of excess weight. I had never been active in sport, but my previous job had me working on a non-local job site, which brought with it a certain amount of physical activity – just enough to hae kept me in reasonable shape. After five years of pen-pushing, I weighed 18 stone 12 pounds (264 lbs or 120 kg), up three stone, and neither I nor my doctor were happy about it.

One day a representative of some accounting firm came in for a scheduled appointment, and, while we were awaiting the other directors, we got to talking about working in an office and its tendency to make one put on a stone or two. He said that he had had the same problem before this new, more mobile, job that he had and that now he made sure he got out of the office regularly and walked everywhere he could, time permitting.

He also said that he’d read an interesting book on dieting while on holiday in the United States and that he would send me a copy when he got back to his home town. I didn’t think anything more of it and never saw the man again. I think his name was Mr. Blackwell.

The book arrived as promised, but I left it lying on my desk unread for months and months, until one day, I had a dentist’s appointment and had forgotten to take a book to work to read while I was waiting – something I always did/do because the magazines are always so old and boring. Anyway, I read 50-60 pages that day and I was mesmerized. I had never been on a proper diet before and I thought I should give it a go. I had stopped eating pastry, cakes and chocolate months ago, but it hadn’t had much effect and my weight was still on the increase, albeit more slowly.

It seemed to me that it was a ‘thinking person’s’ diet There is a huge amount of scope for individual tastes and lifestyles, and self-discipline did not seem to be much of an issue because of that. The book warned of addictions and fads and how best to overcome or prevent them. These did not seem to be an issue for me.

I liked coffee, but could take it or leave it [ED: it has not shown to be quite healthy in most respects)] and I had already given up chocolate [ED: dark chocolate, or more specifically the cocoa found in high quantities in dark chocolate - is one of the most powerful antioxidants ever discovered]. Beer and bread could be a problem though.

The only requirement in the seven-fourteen day induction phase is to eat not more than 20 gram of carbohydrate per day. The book has a clear list of almost every foodstuff and their carbohydrate content. I found it really very easy. In fact, I was eating in a more healthy way in the induction stage than I had been eating before it!

I bought a carton of Ketone sticks from the local chemist to make sure that the Atkins Diet was working and I found that I wasn’t in ketosis [ED: "An abnormal increase of ketone bodies in the blood as in diabetes"] on the third day. It was very gratifying to know that I would be slimming down whatever I did and wherever I was all day long from now on.

I gave up bread (and Guinness!) for a fortnight and felt great. I actually felt ‘springy’ or ‘bouncy’ like a martial artist in the ring before a fight. I had no bother whatsoever staying within the 20 gram limit, although I did miss some fruits more than I’d expected. But I found ways to get around any ‘problem’ that cropped up.

There are hundreds of recipes and recommendations in the book so there’s no need to go into them here. I started eating breakfast before I went to work and dinner in the evenings regularly. I really enjoyed taking care over preparing lunch for work the next day, usually consisting of a salad, some cheese and various nuts to snack on. You can even eat a few strawberries too. In the evening, I would cook up something like a curry (no flour) eating it with green beans instead of rice; or a traditional British meal without potatoes followed by cheese and strawberries and cream. I lost 18 pounds in two weeks and felt better than I had for a decade.

Healthy Choices Lead to Happiness

If you are not a happy person that is a choice you are making. You have tremendous control over your life and the decisions that you make (more than you probably realize.) There are many factors by which people measure happiness. Some people think money is happiness, however they may be absolutely miserable with what they do on a daily basis to make their money.

You might look at people who have absolutely everything and you strive to be like them. These things may have wealth, possessions, status, or even the position you covet at work. These things don’t create happiness. Happiness is a choice.

There are many people who have wealth and a high status who are completely miserable. They may be lonely, divorced, addicted and more. Happiness comes from within. These people may be working jobs they absolutely hate but just have a knack for making money.

Happiness is Subjective

There are things in life that can make you happy that are subjective. They are subjective because happiness comes differently for everyone.

You might find joy and happiness seeking thrills through rides like roller coasters and bungee jumping. This thrill may be more than torture for someone with a fear of heights who would never step foot on a roller coaster or ever be brave enough to jump from a bridge suspended by a bungee cord.

Everyone seeks happiness in their own way. What makes you happy is a natural high that you deserve to seek. There is nothing wrong with the things that you find joy in. You may be told you are crazy but that is because of the subjectivity of life. Everyone has a unique perspective, nature and combination of talents.

Natural Health & Happiness

It is true some people are naturally happy. This is proven through a genetic disposition. This doesn’t mean that you were born to be miserable if you are not a naturally happy person. Your happiness is influenced by your genetics but it is not fixed as a determining factor.

If you are not a naturally happy person you can change the way you think and feel so you are. The key is to change the way your brain thinks and the things you do. You can learn to do things on a daily basis to bring up your happiness level which will help you learn to smile more and be a happier person.

Sleep

Sleep is a big factor if you want to be a happy person. Sleep is needed for the body to be able to function properly. When you don’t get enough sleep you might be moody, have an inability to think clearly, and very unhappy.

You might think you’re getting 8 hours of sleep but you’re not really getting the quality sleep you need. You may be oversleeping (if you sleep generally more than 8 hours) or even be sleeping the wrong way. Some people don’t get a good night’s rest with a pillow that is too hard or soft. Your mattress could play into a bad night of sleep also.

Sleep is a big factor and lack of sleep can cause problems with your health also. Ensuring total well being requires a good night sleep. Remember, your room must be completely dark also. This is very important.

If you are not sleeping well and you have determined the lack of sleep plays into how miserable you are throughout the days you need to fix this. You might need to change your daily schedule so you can get to bed earlier. You also might need to encourage other people in your household to help you a little bit more if you are working too hard.

Lack of sleep can be the entire reason you are miserable. If you have the inability to get to sleep and you toss around all night long staring at the alarm clock this could mean many different things. Some people are very depressed and it causes them not to be able to sleep well. To ensure happiness you need to get a good night of sleep, so it is important to address the underlying issues as to why you are not sleeping well. If you are depressed, for example, seek counseling. Take action.

Exercise

Exercise is very good for the body and it helps the brain put out endorphins which help enable you to be happy. Exercise is important for total health. This doesn’t mean that you have to be on a heavy exercise routine on a daily basis. However, it is very healthy to sweat at least a few times a week. You can get an amazing exercise by just cleaning the house and doing normal household chores. This isn’t just about losing weight and caring for your body through movement. It is about creating happiness.

Meditation

Practicing meditation doesn’t mean you belong to a cult or you are doing anything religiously weird. Many people associate meditation with Buddhism and think it is “not for them.” They are missing out on something extremely important which could be exactly what they need to balance out their days and help find that inner peace we all long for.

Meditation is one of the most effective ways to change your psychological well being. Doctors have proven meditation to generate brain activity on the left side, which produces a positive emotion in the body. And many studies have linked meditation with less stress and less disease. Meditate at least 15 minutes every day.
